Who Is Lisa La La?
Lisa La La has always been a music lover. At twelve, she began playing guitar and writing songs and continued to be active in music throughout elementary, Jr. & Sr. high school participating in church choir and school chorus.
Lisa studied music at SUNY New Paltz and receive a Bachelors of Science in music business from New York University . After graduation she worked at major record companies in New York City including Capitol Records, SONY Music and Universal Music Group. She continued to grow musically and performed in her own New York City bands as lead guitarist and vocalist.
Today Lisa La La resides in Harrington Park with her son Cameron. Her love of music continues to grow and she shares it with a new audience. Performing on guitar, she introduces children to music by offering a program of interactive musical fun by integrating silly and creative movement, puppets, finger-play and rhythm games. Her animated performance encourages children to participate by singing along, clapping hands or playing an instrument. She can be found most days performing an energetic and lively set of music for toddlers at day cares, pre-schools, libraries and festivals.
Lisa La La has also incorporated her music program for children with special needs. Children with special needs respond to music very well and by slowing it down, more repetition and a quieter, calmer state, children can relate to the music and respond in ways that open up their spatial reasoning. Also, by emphasizing children to sing directly into the microphone…children that are non-verbal, after months of working with them will actually sing into the microphone. Also emphasizing a lot of movement and rhythm, these children have a natural instinct for rhythm.
Music is a powerful tool that has been used as a healing medium since ancient times. By emphasizing these things, her music program helps children to grow and provide an alternative avenue of communication for those finding it hard to express themselves. Lisa has completed her program with much success at Head Start of Rockland of Spring Valley, NY; Early Intervention Center at St. Joseph's Hospital in Patterson NJ; PIE (Preschool Instruction for the Exceptional), Bergen County Region III.
Lisa La La also offers private guitar lessons out of her home studio. For beginners to intermediate, ages 6 years and up, children learn the fundamental concepts of ear training, rhythm and chord progressions. Emphasis on all major/minor chords and some fundamentals of music theory. For intermediate: lead into major/minor scales and fundamentals of improvisation. Will teach many styles: rock, pop, fold, jazz and blues.
